The purpose of this site is to match audio tags to specific audio codecs and to provide the audio codecs as freely available downloads where it is possible.
What is an audio codec?Multimedia files that contain some kind of audio in principle always uses an audio codec. An audio codec is a small software component that can translate between the (often compressed) format in which audio is stored in a file into a raw format that is sent to the audio card of the computer to be played back. |
What is an audio tag?An audio tag is an identifying code for a given audio stream in a multimedia file. This code tells which audio codec was used when the audio was encoded with - and thus also which audio codec is required to play decode it. |
Audio tags that are unlinked has not been matched to a specific audio codec yet. Head over to the audio tags page to get a better overview of which tags are used by which audio codecs.
Audio tags is also another name for the meta data in audio files that tells which artist made the original song, which album it is from and the song title etc. Go to our audio tag editors section to find applications that allows to to edit the audio tags in audio files.
